Among the family papers in my possession is an album with postcards of Dutch churches, collected by my grandfather. Most of the cards are from the 1930s. On Sundays, I post cards from this collection in the series Church Sunday. Today: St Joris in Amersfoort.
The Sint Joriskerk (St. George church) in Amersfoort is still in use as a protestant church, though at the moment it is closed for renovation.
The original church was built in 1248, but it was changed completely in the 15th century. The church is protestant since 1579 (except for a short time in 1672-1673, when it was used by catholics).
